Masters Student Interns

Jacksonville Counseling Services  offers counseling from students who are working toward their Master's degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Social Work. Counseling with a student intern is a great option for many people, especially those needing a lower-cost option. Please contact us to see if your needs are right for counseling with an intern. All interns are supervised by Rebecca Maxwell.

Nathalie Potts, Student Intern

Hi, my name is Nathalie Potts, and I am a graduate student at Liberty University working to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I am a mother to two beautiful girls, and I have been married to my husband for 20 years. Jacksonville has been our home city since we graduated from college, and we love it here.

I obtained my bachelor's degree from Florida State University and worked in the world of education for 15 years. I have experience working with preschool, elementary, and high school ages. I have worked with kids in ESE programs and gifted students. My last vears of teaching were spent as a preschool director. Even though I loved the education world and teaching, this desire blossomed into helping individuals in a different way. I spent years supporting children, families, and teachers. It further confirmed this call into the mental health field.

I believe in a client-centered approach to counseling. As a counselor, I will guide the clients through their healing journey. I believe in coming alongside the client to empower them to establish goals and desired outcomes through a safe, secure, and comforting environment.

My faith in Christ has been my foundation. We live in a fallen world, and I believe Jesus is our ultimate healer and provider. God has provided the way through His Word and wisdom. I love to point people to Christ and share how our identity can be found in Him. I am happy to incorporate a Biblical worldview during sessions at the client's request.

Nathanael Hibbs, Student Intern

Hi, my name is Nathanael Hibbs. I am a student intern here at Jacksonville Counseling Services. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from North Carolina Wesleyan University and I am scheduled to receive my master's degree in Social Work in August of 2024 from Saint Leo University.

Prior to joining Jacksonville Counseling Services, I worked with kids ranging from the ages 2-17 years of age. I have worked as an intern at an agency based in Jacksonville FL, where I gained experience counseling adolescence and I have also worked as a baseball coach where I have done one-on-one baseball lessons with kids and teens. These experiences have ignited my passion to work with adolescents and young adults to help them walk through the struggles of this life. Some techniques that I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Talk Therapy, and Play Therapy with children.

The lives we live are full of twists and turns and it is easy to get lost. We often measure our worth by our perceived success and failures, which can often leave us feeling empty. If you have ever felt lost and broken, there is hope. There is hope because there is a man named Jesus who loves you simply for who you are and not what you have done. Despite the battles you are going through or what you may think of yourself when Jesus hears your name, He smiles. There is nothing he wants more than to walk alongside you through this life and to fight your battles with you.

At the request of the client, I would be more than willing to incorporate the Christian faith into sessions. If it sounds like we would be a good fit, I would be honored to walk through your healing with you.

Since I am currently a Master's Student, I will be under the supervision of the owner of Jacksonville Counseling Services, Rebecca Maxwell. This means that notes of our sessions will be reviewed and discussed weekly to guide my growth as a therapist. If Permitted by the client, video recordings of some sessions will also be used to be reviewed to improve as a therapist and ensure that you receive the care that you need.

If you have any questions about my services or scheduling, please feel free to reach out to hibbs.counseling@gmail.com.

Becky Lee, Student Intern

Hey there! My name is Becky Lee, and I am a graduate student at Liberty University working to become a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I have been married for six years and we have a beautiful daughter. I am originally from Michigan but have lived in Jacksonville for almost ten years now. Our family loves this community!

I have my bachelor’s degree from Trinity Christian College in psychology with a minor in church ministry and leadership, and a master’s degree in education for school counseling. I never had
the opportunity to work in a school setting, but I have worked in human resources for over 12 years and have felt led to be back in the mental health field. I am dedicated to following the desire that God has placed in my heart for helping others.

I have experience working with teenage girls that struggle with mental health concerns such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression, self-harm, etc. in both a residential treatment center and group home setting. I love working with individuals of all ages, as well as in a group setting.
I believe that God is our true comforter as the one who sustains us and where we can find ultimate peace and rest. I have a deep desire to help clients who are in a season of being unsettled move toward healing, freedom, and restoration in a safe space that is free of
judgement. At the client’s request, I would be glad to incorporate the love and truth of Jesus into our sessions, but this is not a requirement for receiving care from me.
