Tonya Woods
Registered Mental Health
Counselor Intern
I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern (RMHCI) in Florida. My passion is helping individuals, couples, and families to develop authenticity, emotion regulation, and healthy connection. The theme that connects my work is healing through relationship. I use a variety of approaches, including Christian Counseling when it is welcomed by the client, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). I incorporate interventions based on mindfulness, somatic therapy, Polyvagal theory, and interpersonal neurobiology. I will tailor my approach to the individual
needs of the client.
I specialize in positive parenting and securely attached parenting. I have over 18 years of experience supporting individuals and families affected by autism, ADHD, and ODD as a Mobile Therapist, Behavior Specialist Consultant, Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Clinical Supervisor, and Center Director. I am knowledgeable of recent advances in the field, including atypical presentations of autism, autism in girls, ADHD in girls, late-diagnosed autism or ADHD, and persistent desire for autonomy/pathological demand avoidance.
I also specialize in moving individuals from intimacy challenges, including infidelity, compulsive sexual behavior, pornography addiction, sexual anorexia, and codependence to securely attached relationships with healthy intimacy. I use tenets from attachment science, neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, and trauma-informed care to help individuals understand and heal the root causes of sexually compulsive behavior and betrayal trauma. I am dedicated to providing compassionate, supportive, trauma-informed counseling for betrayed partners. I am a Certified Trauma Professional, and an Associate Sexual Addiction Therapist (ASAT)-Candidate. I am knowledgeable about parental enmeshment, and listed as a preferred provider on Dr. Kenneth M. Adam’s Overcoming Enmeshment website.
I am committed to helping individuals, who received less-than-nurturing parenting, to reparent themselves, reclaim their core identity, develop healthy relationships, and create lives they are passionate about living. I am enthusiastic about helping individuals to develop authenticity and genuine intimacy in their relationships, whether in the context of healing from trauma, or unmasking autism or ADHD.
